Grace Spoken Here
Also Righteousness, Rest, No Condemnation and The Finished Work...
- in Afrikaans.
Unfortunately, this message is in short supply over here in South Africa.
Dear Cheerful Giver,
I'm sure you're very familiar with the teachings on these subjects above. I'm sure it changed your life, big time. It did change mine. And because of it, I often hear my wife mutter “Thank you Jesus”.
Gerhard* is a normal 16 year old, well, sort off...
His eyes were fixed to the floor, no sign of emotion. We were taken aback when we met him.
A couple of months before we met Gerhard, he lost his two younger brothers in a car accident. Grief stole every bit of his teenager joy. His face was hard, his eyes lifeless, almost as if nobody was home. He didn't reply when anybody spoke to him. He just sat there, alone in his devastation. Rosemarie, my wife, spoke to him in a warm soft tone, sharing Jesus.
After a while, he looked up. Something that might resemble a smile, crept to one corner of his mouth.
“Ma’am, may I please accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour?”
There is a massive movement of God going on, all over the world. Grace is rapidly being rediscovered, the way the apostle Paul preached it. For too long, the Body of Christ, even under the New Covenant, was trying to live under the demands of the law. Thank God, He gave some great men and women a fresh revelation of the New Covenant of Grace. I especially thank Him for a very prominent grace teacher, who absolutely is a leading voice, proclaiming grace, proclaiming Jesus' finished work. Because of his influence, Jesus is placed once again in the centre of churches, marriages, careers, businesses.
Hi, I'm Francois du Toit, the senior pastor of a new church plant in Pretoria, South Africa.
(Translated Grace Church)
How Did Grace Change You?
I believe that you have been impacted by Jesus? I'm hearing stories of people who once believed that they need to please God through obedience to the law, but now they know that they are well pleasing to Him because of Jesus. Is this you?
I heard of people who once thought that they needed to earn their blessings, but now know that it is their blood-bought inheritance. Is this maybe you?
I've heard of people who once were in bondage of depression or addictions, but now live free from it – because they confessed their righteousness in Jesus. Maybe, this is you?
I've also heard of people who were ill, but seeing their sickness on Jesus, accepted His health. Please tell me, is this you?
I know people who couldn't care less about other people (except maybe to abuse them for their own benefit), but now makes it possible that these very same people may be impacted by Jesus.
These sentences describe me, especially the last one. And a couple of my friends.
Because you also want others to be impacted by Jesus, you're my kind of person. If we met earlier, we should have been friends by now.
You've experienced this awesome transformation, and you seen it around you. I've seen it in my own life, my family's life, and in the people around me.
Let me tell you a story. It's all about how Jesus pays attention, even to the small details...
My daughter was about three years old, when this happened. She stood behind a door when I opened it. The door hit her full in the face, while it also trapped her toes under the door. Immediate chaos. Picking her up from the ground, I ran to the bathroom, where the closest bottle of anointing oil was. As far as I ran, I prayed in tongues. The moment the oil touched her head and her feet, she stop crying. She wiggled out of my arms, and ran back to where she was playing. Wow, praise God!
Please tell me. How did Jesus change your life?
You also have a wealth of testimonies to share, and please do so in the comments section below. And it's because of righteousness, His righteousness. “God made Him, who knew no sin, to become sin for us, so we may become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.” Come on, you know this, you heard it many times already. 2 Cor 5:21.
I'm passionate of hearing people's testimonies, how Jesus gets all the glory for their results. I just love asking people how Jesus changed them. Most people tell you, without even asking. That is how important these changes are to them.
What I enjoy even more, is to be a part of their transformation. Not only does Gerhard's smile make me happy, I also like to tell his story because I had the privilege of being a small part of it. By the simple gesture that you honour me with your time to read this letter, you are also part of it, making it possible for Jesus to impact them.
76% are not involved at a church
It's not that the Gospel of Grace is not preached here in South Africa, it is. There are excellent churches here, preaching the gospel. It's a matter of sheep without shepherds, big harvests, but too little labourers (Mat 9:36-38). Pray that the Lord sends the labourers into the harvest.
A recent study showed that 76% of Afrikaans speaking people in Pretoria are not involved at a church. This is not a case that people are exposed to law based teachings or stuff like that. They are not exposed to any kind of preaching at all. (The odd one here and there tune in to Christian TV.)
South Africa used to be a 'Christian' country. Yet the statistics from the Order Now Linkxxcxxprevious two censuses confuses me. In the 2005 census, there were 83% Christians in South Africa. Then in 2012, the number suddenly dropped to 64% Christians. I'm confused because of the sudden drop. Oh no, it must have been the rapture, and we are still here. No, I'm kidding, it wasn't the rapture. I might speculate, that people realised that their parents' church attendance are not equal to being a Christian. Whatever the reason, it also doesn't match up with the research that show that only 24% attend a church. The best explanation is that they claim they are Christians, but they are not involved at a local church. It shows that there are a lot of people who are ready to hear about Jesus.
I don't like the reality of these facts.
Both you and I know that the Gospel of Grace sees different results. We see that where Jesus is lifted up in His righteousness, His finished work and His grace, people flock to Him. The crowd around Him is so dense, everybody touches Him. (Hey Lord, everybody touches You, how do You ask who touched you?)
Five and a half years ago, I was introduced to the teachings of a very prominent grace teacher. Similar to how he cut his teeth on Kenneth Hagen’s teachings, I did so on his. I must say, Jesus, through the message of grace, impacted me more than the 6 years of getting my theological degrees. Initially, I was a sceptic pastor from a mixture-based background. But I used my theological training to test these teachings. Very soon, I saw that he reveals Jesus of what I previously only scratched the surface of. I had a very limited revelation of who Jesus really is. Wow, I was blown away.
Then, mid 2017, the Lord released me, with the blessings of ps Joshua McCauley from Redemption Church, Johannesburg, to plant Genade Kerk (translated - Grace Church).
With you coming in behind us, hundreds will be impacted through the birth of a local grace based church – Genade Kerk.
I would just love to see how the people in Pretoria, come to see the same picture of Jesus that you and I have. You already share this passion for the gospel-explosion with me.
- Finding the Lost -
- Empowering the Found -
- Impacting the World -
It's about people coming to Christ. It's about people growing in their relationship with Jesus, experiencing true Fatherly love. It's about us, as Christians, making a huge impact on the world...
It's all about Christ.
While reading here, one of two things are happening in you.
1. Either you feel the urge to get behind this vision, in prayer, financially, maybe in person, or
2. you don't feel it.
Either way, be concious of how the Spirit leads you. Also, forward this letter to your spouse, for the two of you to be in agreement. If you're single, I said this in faith. :) Then bookmark this page to come back tomorrow or next week, once you're ready to give.
Yet, please don't give if:
- You are using a part of your tithe to give here. Your tithe belongs to your local church.
- You'll harm yourself or your family, by taking bread money, even retirement money. Only give out of your abundance. (If giving R100 or R1000 or R10 000 won't harm you, that is abundance. Use your own currency symbol here.)
- You don't have peace about our request.

When we meet in heaven
I'm playing a movie in my mind. You and I meet in heaven, making small talk and enjoying Jesus' presence together. Very quiet, almost unnoticed somebody else comes and stands there with us.
He asks, in a thick Afrikaans accent: “Pastor Francois, who is this?”, pointing to you.
“Oh sorry,” I replied in an equally thick Afrikaans accent, “let me introduce you. This is my friend, your name here, who is one of the people who blessed Genade Kerk financially.”
He grabs you into a big bear-hug, smiling broadly and whisper: “Thank you, it's because of you that I am here.”
|Blessings and Peace,
Francois du Toit
P.S. We will pray for you, we already did. Our prayer team has a standing instruction to pray for our partners, our friends. Rosemarie, my wife, and I also often pray for you.
And lastly I want to remind you of 2 Cor 8-9. The context of these two chapters is that Paul appealed to the believers in Corinth to support the church in Judea financially. Meditate on this and these awesome promises God (not me) gives there. Just take note of how they were (just like yourself) vital in impacting other people, even on a different continent.
2 Cor 9:7-11
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written:
“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”
10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
Absolutely! It'll be my pleasure.
